Black Man in Paris ‘raped’ with police truncheon

People gathering in solidarity with victims from Paris assaults

A 22-year-old black man in a northern Paris suburb was stopped beaten and raped with a police truncheon during an identity check. According to various news sources after the brutal assault, the victim was tear gassed and repeatedly struck in the head because he was unable to sit down. Then he was handcuffed and taken to a police car, where the beating continued.
While at the police station an officer noticed the man’s condition, and he was taken to the hospital.

Crowds of supporters are marching in support of the victim. The local youth in protest have been vandalizing buildings and setting cars and trash bins ablaze. Tension between the police and the local youth have said to been high, and has reached a boiling point several times since 2005.
