On July 1, 2017, thousands of people in Nevada waited in line at dispensaries for hours to purchase marijuana — a plant that has been cultivated for thousands of years and has never killed anyone. The night before, parties raged in celebration of the ability to purchase it for recreational purposes.

Though the right to purchase marijuana in Nevada is exciting, there are some lesser-known facts about its “legalization” few are aware of. As Vin Armani explains in the video below, it is still considered a FELONY to possess an ounce of weed. Additionally, residents are not allowed to grow cannabis unless they live 25 miles or more away from a dispensary.

In addition to explaining the difference between legalization and decriminalization — and why activists should be pushing for decriminalization nationwide, Armani exposes how the government has created a cannabis cartel to profit more than the entrepreneurs who have devoted themselves to cultivating high-quality weed.
