A noose was found hanging from a tree outside of a Smithsonian Museum. A Smithsonian police officer found the noose while conducting security checks. The National Parks Service has launched an investigation into the incident. Linda St. Thomas, chief spokeswoman for the Smithsonian, said, “We’ve never seen a noose hanging from a tree on our property before.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center stated, nooses “show support for the days of segregation and subjugation, epitomizing the essence of discrimination. Around the country, racially charged incidents have become prevalent. This week people we charged with hate crimes after allegedly hanging a noose at a middle school and another was discovered in the Port of Oakland in California.
