The Wisconsin State Budget Committee approved Governor Scott Walker’s proposal to require drug testing for Medicaid recipients. Wisconsin is the first state in the country to enact this law. The committee also approved Walker’s legislation to require drug tests for adults without dependents who receive food stamps, and also for those who receive state health benefits from Wisconsin.
He is also expanding the state’s food stamp work requirement to include parents, but only in particular regions of the state. Parents with children over the age of 6 enrolled in the state’s FoodShare program would be required to work for look for employment for at least 80 hours per month under another measure.
