Trump’s Budget Cuts Slash Entitlements by $1.7T

Trump’s budget according to several news sources that obtained leaked documents, would make significant cuts to Social Security Disability Insurance (SSID) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which benefit disabled and low-income Americans.  Reportedly $1.7T will be cut from the budget over the next ten years.

According to Axios, “Conservatives will love it; moderates will probably hate it.” These mandatory cuts — especially to politically-sensitive programs like food stamps — will make some moderate Republicans as nervous as the recent health care bill did.”

The 2018 budget would cut Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), SSDI, and other programs by $1.7T.  According to Think Progress, “the cuts to SSI would be so deep that the saving would be comparable to if the program were converted into a block grant.”
